The material

What it is

Black Star Gravel is a dark, angular gravel at 5/8 inch with the fines taken out. Because the fines are gone, water moves through it rather than sitting in it. It is used for driveways, pathways, decorative beds and borders, and drainage.

A consistent 5/8 inch size makes it easier to install and gives an even finished surface. We stock it and sell it by the cubic yard.

What to know

Where it comes from

This is one of the few products we do not make. We buy Black Star Gravel in finished, ready to sell, and stock it at the yard.

Orders run one to four cubic yards at a time, sized to the truck or trailer you bring. We carry it so people buying mulch and soil here do not have to make a second stop for stone.

Uses

Best for

  • Driveways and parking areas
  • Pathways and walkways
  • Decorative landscape beds and borders
  • Drainage around beds, downspouts, and French drains

Good to know

Black Star or decomposed granite

Black Star Gravel and decomposed granite are the two stone products we stock. Black Star has the fines taken out, so water moves through it. Decomposed granite keeps its fines, so it packs down into a firm surface. If a job needs both, they load on the same trip with your mulch and soil.
