The material

What it is

Decomposed granite, often called DG, is screened to half-inch minus. That means nothing in it is larger than half an inch and the fine particles below that size are left in. The fines are what let it pack down into a firm surface instead of staying loose. It suits pathways, driveways, and patios where you want a natural look.

We stock it and sell it by the cubic yard. It is a common choice for low-maintenance, drought-tolerant landscapes.

What to know

Where it comes from

This is one of the few products we do not make. We buy decomposed granite in finished, ready to sell, and stock it at the yard.

Orders run one to four cubic yards at a time, sized to whatever truck or trailer you bring. We carry it and Black Star Gravel so a mulch and soil order does not turn into two stops.

Uses

Best for

  • Pathways and walkways
  • Driveways and parking areas
  • Patios and seating areas
  • Low-maintenance, drought-tolerant landscape areas

Good to know

Drainage

Because minus material includes fines, it drains more slowly than a clean, single-size gravel. Where you want water to move through quickly, a clean gravel behaves differently.
